GSA Introduces OneGov to Modernize Federal Tech Procurement
4/30/2025
The General Services Administration (GSA) unveiled a new initiative on Tuesday aimed at streamlining how federal agencies acquire technology. Dubbed the OneGov Strategy, this multi-phase plan represents GSA’s latest move to reform government procurement practices.
The launch of OneGov comes as part of wider structural changes within the GSA under the current administration. A March executive order granted the agency increased oversight of federal purchasing activities in an effort to reduce redundancy and drive down costs. Officials stated the ultimate goal is to establish GSA as the central authority for shared IT services across the federal government. The GSA also recently overhauled its Multiple Award Schedules (MAS) program, aiming to realign and streamline its scope.
At its core, OneGov is designed to simplify and standardize the way agencies access IT products and services. The initial phase of the strategy focuses on providing federal entities with pre-negotiated terms and consistent pricing for technology tools. A key objective is to build direct partnerships between federal buyers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), breaking away from the traditional reliance on third-party resellers.
Future stages of the OneGov Strategy will expand into additional procurement areas, such as administration, cybersecurity, hardware, maintenance, and other products and services. It was noted that there will be close collaboration with both government agencies and private sector partners to manage the rollout smoothly. It was also revealed that the GSA secured a recent agreement with Google that secures discounted access to the company’s Workspace suite for all federal agencies.
