Be Mindful of Contracts Listed only by PSC and not NAICS

Back in November of 2021, Sam.gov announced a new Medical PSC code.
- 6632 – ANALYSIS INSTRUMENTS, MEDICAL LABORATORY USE
As you likely already know, all Product Service Codes (PSC codes) transitioned from a one letter or two digit notation roughly 2 years ago. The reason the old PSCs were changed was due to the vagueness of the descriptions before the transition. The new and improved PSC codes are now being utilized far more frequently by contracting officers. Much of the contracting community doesn’t utilize PSC codes during BD efforts to match new solicitation postings. This is perhaps a misguided assumption that the contracting officers utilize PSC codes predominantly for non services-related postings, however this old rule-of-thumb is changing.
Currently we are seeing contracting officers not only include the new PSC codes on each opportunity, but at times, they denote only the related PSC code on an opportunity posting. As you can imagine this leads to previously NAICS-heavy business development folks missing important opportunities.
Imagine tracking opportunities only by NAICS and the contracting officers post some opportunities with only the PSC code. Many contractors would miss that posting much to their chagrin. EZGovOpps Market Intelligence suggests that you please focus on PSC as well, especially for non service-related solicitation postings but also practice great habits of monitoring PSC codes that are identical in description to your services related sister NAICS codes.
We can confirm that as of today (May 10th 2022), there has NOT been a solicitation posting and or reported contract for the above mentioned PSC 6632 code to date. This new PSC code has already been implemented in the EZGovOpps search environment in preparation of future procurement being posted/recorded in that specific PSC code.
